More Moore
Wed Feb 21, 2007 at 12:28:46 PM PDT
Although it has been 5 years since the release of Bowling for Columbine, James Nichols has doggedly pursued legal action against Michael Moore. Although the libel and defamation suit Nichols filed against Moore was thrown out of court in 2005, Nichols and his attorney appealed the decision.

Diary title edited for clarity...and a little humor
Update 2:05 p.m.Yes & No in the poll are tied...so I'm letting this diary live :)
Ok, so this diary isn't all that important.
But I decided to post it anyway just to share....because I care. And I'll delete it if that's what the poll indicates (..after it's on the diary list, for a little while of course...)
A little background:
Wow, that was almost TOO easy
Mon Aug 01, 2005 at 02:05:55 PM PDT
Ok, so confession time: This is kinda difficult to say, especially considering I am surrounded by people getting involved in a meaningful way, each day.
I was one of those armchair activists when it came to political involvement.

The Gay Marriage Debate - NATURE vs. NURTURE
Tue Nov 30, 2004 at 01:05:57 PM PDT
I had posted this idea earlier this month, but the marriage post has inspired me to expand on it...
The Framing Problem
Many (most?) Christians believe that homosexuality is a choice. In my opinion, sexuality - homo or hetero - is just a part of who a person is (i.e. it's not a choice). The way I talked about gay marriage was based on that idea. I took part in many arguments-debates with some opinionated people, but never had much success because of that fundamental difference. How often have you heard a conservative mention "sexual preference". They're framing the issue again. Since there is no real scientific data that proves homosexuality isn't a choice, there's nothing we can to to make them change that framing. So what is left? If you can't beat 'em, join 'em?

Veteran's Day 2004 - I cried
Fri Nov 12, 2004 at 08:13:33 AM PDT
Last night I cried for the soldiers; veterans of wars past and present. I cried because I was angry about the Iraq war, and there was nothing I could have done to prevent it. I cried for all of the dead civilians who have done nothing worse than live under the rule of a dictator whom some deemed "evil" and an imminent danger to our country. I cried because I do not trust the man in charge of all the troops fighting in the war that I believe is unnecessary at worst and untimely at best. And all the crying started because I watched HBO's newest documentary,
Last Letters Home: Voices of American Troops from the Battlefields of Iraq, inspired by
The New York Times.
Michelle Malkin: Women who support Kerry=hysterical
Wed Oct 20, 2004 at 02:10:58 PM PDT
Seriously, that's the title of her column today:
"Hysterical Women for Kerry" I became so angry as I read it, that I felt I should send her a letter. But I want some help with it, because it's really long. Please read her column, and then my letter (below the jump...)
Misc. diary - Who is Allawi? Gmail invites Right Track/Wrong Track poll
Fri Sep 24, 2004 at 04:58:54 PM PDT
This is not a one-line diary, it'll be like 5 or 6 lines by the time I'm done...
First things first - I was over at This Modern World and found this link all about Ayad Allawi. (Ahh, love that alliteration.)
I disagree with the final line, though:
Not that this will make a damned bit of difference in the tidal wave of bullshit about Allawi being "leader of a free and democratic Iraq"
He posted it, Tom Tomorrow linked to it, and now I'm posting it here. Can't hurt, and being informed might just make a difference...
Second order of business:
I have 6 gmail invitations available - first come, first serve.
Update [2004-9-24 20:21:16 by spyral]: You know how Bush mentioned the right track-wrong track poll in Iraq? Well, this post is a great summary of the organization that conducted the poll: The International Republican Institute. That's just the beginning...click the link for more.
Putin: Get rid of popular vote to help war on terror
Mon Sep 13, 2004 at 12:31:50 PM PDT
Well, Vladimir Putin seems to have a new, more focused agenda since the recent terrorist attack on the school:
...propose legislation
abolishing the election of local governors by popular vote. Instead, they would be nominated by the president and confirmed by local legislatures - a move that would undo the remaining vestiges of the local autonomy already chipped away by Putin during his first term in office. Putin explained his move by the need to
streamline and strengthen the executive branch to make it more capable of combating terror. (emphasis mine)

Go, Jimmy, Go!
Tue Sep 07, 2004 at 02:56:04 PM PDT
Whew, I was just over at
Talking Points Memo, and I saw
this post. It's the text of a letter from Jimmy Carter to Zell Miller. I'm going to cut & paste everything in the extended entry box below because everyone should read the whole thing.
I doubted the people who said Carter was the Democrat's attack dog this year because of his convention speech (he seemed so calm & nice while giving it - not like a shrill partisan), but he sure has some fire in his belly.
Bush denounces 527s
Fri Aug 06, 2004 at 01:58:10 PM PDT
link
Here is the mixed blessing & curse of the 527s. Bush's (actually quite savvy) political move to ask that no more 527 ads be produced & aired. And, of course, called on the Kerry campaign to agree with him.
"The president has been on the receiving end of more than $62 million in negative attack ads from shadowy groups," Mr. McClellan said. "The president thought he got rid of this kind of activity when he signed the bipartisan campaign finance reforms into law."
Umm...cough*bushit*cough
Read the rest of the article. It also contained some info I was unaware of - that veterans still prefer Bush 58% to Kerry's 35%. I imagine that many vets are still offended that Kerry protested Vietnam when he returned to the US. It sounds like Bush is winning the meme war. Time to reframe Kerry's service? I mean, come on - we've got a real soldier with wartime experience on our side, and the Repubs have AWOL. WTF?

Senate bill could shut down blogs
Mon Jul 26, 2004 at 01:31:50 PM PDT
I read about this over on
MyDD. Go - read -
write your senators. (Levin & Stabenow just got my email.)
Excerpt -
Critics say the bill would effectively outlaw peer-to-peer networks and prohibit the development of new technologies, including devices like the iPod. The Inducing Infringement of Copyrights Act (S. 2560) was introduced last month by Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), head of the Senate Judiciary Committee. The legislation would hold a company liable that "intentionally induces" a person to infringe copyright.

more on Bush, God, & Tool
Mon Jul 19, 2004 at 11:04:23 AM PDT
President Bush loves God. He would love it if everyone knew how much he loves God so when they think God, they think Bush. In fact, Bush wants us to think that he & God are homies. Check it out...
"I trust God speaks through me. Without that, I couldn't do my job."
There you have it - Bush is doing God's work, so sit down & shut up, all you Jews, Muslims, Bhuddists, and everyone out there who doesn't believe in Bush's Christian God. Don't get me wrong - I consider myself a non-religious Christian. I think that Jesus taught some great lessons, & led by example (treating the poor, outcasts, etc. like human beings), but I don't believe that the bible should be taken literally. Anyway, my own personal feelings aside, what Bush said immediately reminded me of this song:
Bush...revealed?
Thu Jul 15, 2004 at 06:59:17 AM PDT
My friend and co-worker came in this morning with her bible. She heard a story on the radio yesterday about a speech that Bush gave recently. He was professing his faith, and than quoted John 3:16. So far, no big deal, right? Well, apparently when he cited the chapter & verse, he actually said "John 16:3" before saying "For God so loved the world...". According to my friend (via the radio program) none of Bush's staffers blinked an eye when he made the chapter-verse switch. Maybe if Bush knew what John 16:3 actually said, he would made sure not to mix it up...
Moore ... Passion
Wed Jun 23, 2004 at 01:58:07 PM PDT
Hello,
Just went to Moore's
site & found out that there are benefit screenings in 10 citys *tomorrow* around the country.
Details here
And, so I don't get a diary citation, here's another link to brighten your day. Well, not really brighten..maybe shock &/or disgust.
New (?) idea to GOTV [and, yes, a poll]
Mon Jun 21, 2004 at 10:29:09 PM PDT
Ok, I'm tired, and I'll probably end up editing & reposting this tomorrow, so bear with me.
I've been thinking about what I'm going to do to GOTV for Kerry. I am planning on bringing voter registration forms to f911, putting my MoveOn bumper sticker (as soon as I get it), and I will share my support for Kerry when asked by others. Yet, I feel that's not adequate.
Wait, Osama DOESN'T hate our freedom?!
