I'm On Day Five -- What Day Are You On? (With Poll)

Fri Feb 23, 2007 at 09:58:43 AM PDT

Starting this past Monday, February 19th, Air America Radio (AAR) replaced The Al Franken Show with The Thom Hartmann Show.  Thom’s show is on AAR live from 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM Eastern on Monday through Friday, and replays at night (actually early in the morning of the following day) from 12:00 Midnight to 3:00 AM Eastern.

Unfortunately, XM Radio made a bad decision and is no longer carrying the entire Air America Radio line-up on channel 167, even though they still have the audacity to call Channel 167 the "Air America Radio" channel.  Starting this past Monday they are now preempting The Thom Hartmann Show on AAR and substituting Ed Schultz for Thom Hartmann.  This is the same dirty trick they pulled on Randi Rhodes at one time when they preempted the first two hours of her show with big ego gas bag schultz until finally listener complaints forced them to move the big ego gas bag to another channel and carry the entire Randi Rhodes show live on Channel 167.

Attention: XM Radio Subscribers that are Air America Radio fans – we are getting screwed!

Mon Feb 19, 2007 at 11:04:17 AM PDT

Starting today Air America Radio (AAR) is replacing The Al Franken Show with Thom Hartmann.  Thom’s first AAR show is 12 Noon to 3:00 pm Eastern today, Monday, February 19, 2007.

Unfortunately, and as promised, XM Radio is no longer carrying the entire Air America Radio (AAR) line-up.  Starting today, XM Radio Channel 167 is preempting AAR and substituting Ed Schultz for Thom Hartmann.

Did Cheney Have A VALID Texas Hunting License

Sun Feb 12, 2006 at 03:48:07 PM PDT

I first posted this thought as a comment to another diary, and someone suggested I do a diary on the subject.

The laws in the state of Texas are pretty clear that a valid hunting license is required for both residents and non-residents to engange in the sport of hunting.

A hunting license is required of any person, regardless of age, who hunts any animal or bird in this state, except as specified below. Non-residents under 17 years of age may purchase and hunt with the Special Resident Hunting License (Type 102).

Taxpayer Money Spent On Crawford Ranch?

Thu Jun 16, 2005 at 10:44:34 PM PDT

While tracking parallels in the second terms of Richard Nixon and George W. Bush, ran across this interesting little tid bit:

Soon after his reelection Nixon's popularity plummeted as the growing revelations of the Watergate affair indicated pervasive corruption in his administration, and there was widespread criticism of the amount of government money spent on his private residences.

http://www.factmonster.com/ce6/people/A0860014.html

Several searches for data concerning how much the taxpayers have spent on improving and adding onto the Crawford "ranch" did not find anything.

Has anyone seen or know how to find information about how much the Federal Government has spent on improvements to the Bush property in Crawford, Texas?

It has to be substantial.  At the beginning of his first term that place was not much more than a small three bedroom house.  The total absence of video or photographs coming from "the ranch" that show any details raise the suspician there is something there Bush does not want to public to see.

Any FOI experts want to go fishing for the facts?

Scottie's Mommy Going To Run For TX-Gov

Thu Jun 16, 2005 at 11:23:59 AM PDT

The Houston Chronicle is reporting in today's edition that Scott McClellan's mother, Carol Keaton [McClellan, Rylander] Strayhorn is expected to announce her plans to run for Governor of Texas.  That will likely put her in a three-way race with the current Governor, Rick Perry, and Senator Kay Baily Hutchinson.

Strayhorn will make her announcement Satruday at a midday outdoor rally near the state Capitol.

This raises an interesting question.  How soon will Scotty use this as an opportunity to get out of the hot box at the White House and run home to Texas to help his mommy beat his current boss's successor?

Excerpts from the article appear below the jump.

How Does Dobson Stay Tax Exempt?

Tue May 24, 2005 at 10:14:02 PM PDT

This has to be a question for the IRS to answer:

Paging Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Mark W. Everson.

Commissioner Everson, please pick-up the white courtesy phone.

"Hello, Commissioner Everson.  Can you please tell us how and why this "De Facto Senator" James Dobson is able to actively engange in the business and the control of the Federal Government while actively participating in political and legislative activities, and still maintain his tax exempt status?"

"Is the IRS failing to properly enforce its own regulations?"

Who IS President Anyway??

Wed May 11, 2005 at 11:29:12 AM PDT

A small plane flies within three or four miles of the White House.

Cheney is IN the White House and is hurried out of the building and off to a secure location.

Bush, on the other hand, who has been out of the country for the past five days, is where?

He is off in Waldorf, Maryland riding a bicycle!

Huh?

The Chief Executive Officer of the country has been out of the country and not in the office for the better part of the past week, and on the morning of the first day back in town, he is approximately 30 miles south-southeast of the White House riding a bicycle.

At the same time, the Vice President is where?  In the White House, that is where.

Who is running this country?

Does this current resident of the White House realize he has a job, or is his job only cerimonial, and is the Vice President really running this country?

Twenty-fifth Amendment?

Pope's Legacy -- Clinton Right and Bush Wrong

Fri Apr 08, 2005 at 03:11:49 PM PDT

One more time, Bush proves that he does not know what he is talking about.

Bush, Clinton Disagree on Pope's Legacy

Apr 8, 11:22 AM (ET)

By TOM RAUM

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) - President Bush on Friday said that attending the funeral of Pope John Paul II was "one of the highlights of my presidency" and made clear that he disagrees with former President Clinton's assessment that the pontiff leaves a mixed legacy.

"I think John Paul II will have a clear legacy of peace, compassion and a strong legacy of setting a clear moral tone," Bush told reporters on Air Force One as he flew from Rome to the United States just hours after the funeral. He said he wanted to amend his remarks to add the word "excellent."

[. . . .]

Clinton, on the flight to Rome earlier this week, had said that John Paul "may have had a mixed legacy," but he called him a man with a great feel for human dignity.

"There will be debates about him. But on balance, he was a man of God, he was a consistent person, he did what he thought was right," Clinton said. "That's about all you can ask of anybody."

Propagannon One Month Old Today!

Happy Anniversary and Thanks to SusanG and her team!!

Almost let the day get by, without stopping to recall and recognize that it was one month ago today, on Friday, January 28th, 2005 at 17:30:14 PST, that SusanG posted the now famous question:

Plame leaked by fake news source?

Did the White House dribble the Plame leak through its own fake mouthpiece news source?

Deep Throat II? -- Update -- A Reply From The Iconoclast

Sat Feb 26, 2005 at 03:33:33 PM PDT

Keep the faith -- what we are doing is working!

[Update] - I sent Leon Smith a heads-up on what was happening here at dailykos. His reply is now added to the bottom of this diary.

W. Leon Smith, the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of The Lone Star Iconoclast the Crawford, Texas weekly newspaper that had the courage to come out against George Bush and endorse John Kerry in the Presidential Election -- and then saw his circulation and advertising revenue cut in half by hometown prejudices -- is at it again.

In this week's, Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, edition Leon shows once again that he is way ahead of his big city counterparts.

Maybe the MSM and big city dailies are slow to pick-up on this story, but not Crawford, Texas.  See the story after the jump.

Bush and Diplomatic Stupidity 101

Wed Feb 23, 2005 at 03:09:02 PM PDT

Diplomatic Stupidity 101

Lesson 1

How NOT to prepare for your meeting with the other side.

Issue public insults and rebukes of your advisory and his policies.

Taking a quick glance at a TV earlier today, I could not believe what I thought I heard Bush saying in public about Russia and President Vladimir Putin less than 24 hours before his planned meeting with the Russian President.  Checking the reports in the MSM of what he said, I guess I did hear stupidity.

CORRECTION: Eberle Boys ARE NOT Brothers

Fri Feb 18, 2005 at 01:30:18 PM PDT

Feel that I need to post this correction as soon as possible, and since the original Diary has already rolled off the end of the world, do so as a new diary.

I wrote the reporter for the Houston Chronice and asked for confirmation that Bobby Eberle had told her that he and Bruce Eberle are brothers.  I also asked her for more information about Bobby Eberle's employment with Lockheed Martin and the circumstance surrounding his termination of employment and about his being in Washington on September 11, 2001.

She wrote back saying they were going to publish a correction to their story.  Now it appears that one or both of the Eberle guys are denying that they are brothers.

Web sites operator stirs up politics, journalism debate

Scandal places his Pearland-based Internet enterprise under a microscope

Until employing a reporter who used a fake name to gain access to the White House and insult Democrats during a nationally televised briefing, Bobby Eberle managed to keep a low profile while amassing a conservative Internet following.

Though Eberle was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 2000, Texas Republican officials this week declined to talk about him and even denied knowing him.

But Eberle -- a former aerospace engineer who has never contributed to a political candidate and works out of his $225,000 home in a sprawling Pearland subdivision of new, color-coordinated burgundy and beige brick houses -- finds himself a key player in a tawdry scandal that has captivated Washington.

Iraq vote result delayed

Wed Feb 09, 2005 at 02:27:17 PM PDT

This knocks my socks off.

Suddenly they decide there are irregularities in the vote and a recount is needed.  Guess "they" do not like the results?

Iraqi authorities said on Wednesday the final results of the country's elections were being delayed for recounts, as gunmen shot dead a journalist for a US-funded television station amid a series of new attacks.

Tue Nov 09, 2004 at 05:44:43 PM PDT

On the same day Ashcroft resigns claiming "Mission Accomplished" The Houston Chronicle in Bush's home state is full of distrubing news.

   1. A woman found with her throat slashed this morning had just walked her young child to a school bus stop and was returning to her southwest Houston apartment, police said.

   2. A Houston-area jury determined today that a sham barge sale put together by ex-Enron executives and some former Merrill Lynch bankers cost Enron shareholders $13 million.

   3. After hearing testimony about an effort to fake mental incapacity, a federal judge ruled today that an accused human smuggler charged in connection with the deaths of 19 illegal immigrants must stand trial.
