How Democrats can Combat "Moral Refusal"
Tue Jun 17, 2008 at 04:55:43 PM PDT
Dogemperor has an excellent diary today on "Moral Refusal".
I can't say I've been really been up on the subject but something in his diary really stirred a reaction.
What I am about to propose is to treat the problem from the perspective of past republican issues. Whether you agree or disagree with this approach, I still think it needs to be attempted. So, if you agree, I think we should start an online campaign followed by calls to your congressman or legislator including your state legislator.

Something fishy in the Mega Millions Lottery?
Sat May 17, 2008 at 05:48:05 PM PDT
I'm no statistician so maybe somebody who knows something about this can weigh in. Here in the United States there are two main multi-state lotteries that I am aware of. One of them is called the "Mega Millions" lottery of which twelve states participate in.
There are two drawings per week and the lottery is essentially a Pick-6 drawing which means 5 balls with values between 1 and 56, followed by the 6th ball which is called the Mega Ball with a value between 1 and 46.
I know this ain't political but I find it interesting and perhaps some other might too. More below.
Help! Counter Right-Wing Chain e-Mails
Sat Mar 15, 2008 at 08:45:27 AM PDT
Well, first let me start off and say that I didn't just receive one of those annoying, un-factual, right-wing emails slurring one of our favorite candidates, their position, lying about their ethnicity, or religion.
I'm sure many progressives have thought about this before that even though the right lies, they have an unbelievable (not to mention gullible) amount of willing constituents that put forth their propaganda via this vast engine of "friends and family" email contacts. How many times have you been a recipient of this vast right wing e-mail engine?
What we need is our own. Folow me across the jump.
I'm Bored. A RANT about this Site.
Fri Dec 14, 2007 at 05:00:42 PM PDT
I have been a regular visitor, several times per day, of this site for going on over three years now. At first, I was captivated by all of the knowledgeable people all seemingly working on a common goal of winning the 2004 election.
That's not when I got bored. This site along with Americablog, Liberal Oasis, Talking Points Memo, were my daily news feed and pulse on the world. They still are. However, I'm beginning to see these sites including Daily Kos in a different light.
One Day Sentence for Scooter is "Excessive"
Mon Jul 02, 2007 at 03:29:08 PM PDT
Short diary. The frame from every liberal and Democrat should be:
The president must believe that serving even a single day of Scooter Libby's sentence is too excessive. The president could have commuted half his sentence, quartered it or whatever but according to our president even that would have been too harsh.
Taxes: Explain It Like You're Talking to a 12-year Old.
Thu Nov 09, 2006 at 08:52:33 PM PDT
I was having a discussion with my 22 year old son the other day about taxes and the differences between republicans and democrats. I started with an analogy that I had been tweaking on different people, so here goes.
Tell the Truth: Bush Wants our Troops Tortured
Thu Sep 14, 2006 at 04:52:15 PM PDT
For the life of me, I can't figure out why Democratic leadership has let the Republicans fight this one out. A strong act of our party's leadership could further strengthen the differences between the two parties.
In my last diary I tried to point out how we should be on the offensive instead of running from confrontations and that we should frame our messages just like the repubs.
With that in mind, let's analyze how to attack Bush's torture plan. We should be saying: Republicans want our troops to be tortured And follow with the explanation that redefining our interpretation of the Geneva conventions simply allows our soldiers to be treated in the way that we define it. Do we want our soldiers subject to alternative interrogations?
Let's Slam the Republicans [UPDATED]
Fri Aug 11, 2006 at 08:37:49 PM PDT
The GOP is always exaggerating threats like the recent ills spilled out by Cheney and Mehlman. They constantly take any sign of opposition, to the extreme, with their statements of Democrats supporting terrorism.
Why not turn it around? Its about time that the Democrats used the same weapon against them and let's see how they react.
These are all talking points that all Democrats on TV, radio, and print should be saying. These should be the opening salvos followed with enlightening examples. Here's some examples:
Try "Republicans want terrorists to succeed. They want a terrorist incident to happen so that they can use it as a political issue". Let's analyze that statement.
Am I Anti-God, Anti-religion, or just Intolerant?
Tue Mar 14, 2006 at 07:46:05 AM PDT
We all get emails from friends, some on the right, some on the left, that we don't necessarily always agree with but I am starting to get really irritated at the religious based school prayer types of chain emails.
You know the kind. The ones that say "If you believe in Jesus and are not ashamed of him, pass this on". These kinds of emails are burning my butt.
Some background on my beliefs after the jump.
Cheney Shooting: The Science Doesn't Add Up
Sun Feb 19, 2006 at 08:39:53 AM PDT
I finally got some time to review the transcript of Dick Cheney's interview with Fox's Brit Hume via
David Ehrenstein's blog and stumbled across something that I believe no one has noticed yet.
Yes, we all know about the pellet marks on the right side of Whittington's face, neck, and torso and the question has been asked about how could the heart (on the left side of the body) been hit? Not sure that was answered adequately but here's some more to add to the shooting mystery.
But the real question that should be asked, is how is it, that Whittington was shot on the right side of his body?
Humor: Tomorrow's Late Night Talk Shows about Cheney
Sun Feb 12, 2006 at 08:31:56 PM PDT
I thought it'd be interesting to guess what the late nite talk shows will be saying about Cheney shooting someone.
Here goes:
LENO: You know, Vice President Dick Cheney, shot a man this weekend. Did you hear about that? I'm not kidding. (laughs) It seems that Cheney was hunting quail on a farm and when some of the birds flew out, he turned and fired on the birds and shot a friend of his, with a shotgun.
When asked about the incident, Cheney replied that he's hunted quail before and that he's a good shot but unfortunately sometimes there's some collateral damage. YIKES.

CYA Begins: WH Tries to Round Up all Photos of Bush & Abramoff
Sun Jan 08, 2006 at 06:38:28 PM PDT
Raw Story is reporting that TIME will be reporting
Bush trying to round up all photos of President with Abramoff We need to do some work here folks.
Aides to President George W. Bush are trying to identify all the photos that may exist of the President and lobbyist Jack Abramoff together, TIME's White House Correspondents Mike Allen and Matt Cooper report in Monday editions
...
<snip>
Press secretary Scott McClellan said Abramoff might have attended large gatherings with Bush but added, "The President does not know him, nor does the President recall ever meeting him."
You see, first its Bush distancing himself from Abramoff, next it will be Tom Delay. I found some articles and photos of Bush showing his support for Tom Delay back in April 2005. Let's see if anyone can come up with some photo-ops of Bush with Abramoff.
Jib-Jab: Bush's Year in Review (cartoon/video)
Fri Dec 16, 2005 at 12:48:57 PM PDT
Jib-Jab pokes fun of Bush with their latest little
vignette.
Maybe some of you have seen this. I stumbled across this today and well, it's that time of year where everyone does a "Year in Review"
Emerging: War on Liberalism Strike Back Plan
Thu Dec 15, 2005 at 07:15:58 PM PDT
It occurred to me that if the left had 1/5th the sound machine of the right, that we should be able to exploit their silly "War on Christmas".
Let's make a concentrated effort to spread this meme:
The War on Liberalism
You see, it doesn't have to be true. All we have to do is portray ourselves as victims as many republicans and the religious right do.
Our proof? Hmmm. Let's see. "Liberal" has become a bad word. We all know how conservatives have demonized the word "Liberal".
97% Burn Efficiency on Gas Engines???
Thu Sep 22, 2005 at 10:23:18 AM PDT
A friend of mine sent me this
story about a Canadian man who has found a way to make gas engines more efficient and cut way, way, down on emissions.
It seems that hydrogen power has been talked about and experimented with for quite some time now but there were always problems with hydrogen; highly combustible, availability, lack of hydrogen (gas) stations, etc, etc.
However, this guy solves the problem by creating hydrogen on the fly through electrolysis by using a reservoir of water and some other chemicals.
It's a scientific fact that adding hydrogen to a combustion chamber will cause a cleaner burn. The challenge has always been to find a way to get the hydrogen gas into the combustion chamber in a safe, reliable and cost-effective way.

My Ranting Response to Republican Spam
Sat Sep 10, 2005 at 10:11:44 AM PDT
In one of my previous entries, I described how I have a good friend who continually sends me the republican spam of the week.
First is my response to the spam, followed by the actual spam. The spam shows pictures of the buses in NOLA sitting in a parking lot surrounded by water.
Of course, the genius of this little bit, gets out his calculator and computes that during his time the max seating capacity for the yellow school buses is 66 persons. Supposedly counting the amount of buses in this yard, he computes that 13,000+ people could have been evacuated.

Rush DimBulb on High Gas Prices and my thoughts
Fri Sep 02, 2005 at 06:29:34 PM PDT
I thought I'd check out DimBulb's (Limbaugh's) website to see what he might be saying but I didn't get down too far from the top before I saw a transcript for
"The Laws of Supply & Demand Work But liberals don't believe in them.."
I am so sick of conservatives blindly believing the supposed Laws of Supply and Demand and that it applies to every situtation (while they or their friends make big money) that I thought it would be interesting to point out the fallicies of the moronic unthinking lemmings as they and others tumble over the cliff.
Make the jump with me.
My Response to A Repub Friend's Email Link
Sat Aug 20, 2005 at 08:17:46 PM PDT
I have a good friend who unfortunately is Republican. We never argue (in person) about politics, in fact we hardly discuss it, and if we do, we do so politely. We mostly email each other articles or our comments to each other about our political feelings. Of course, over the last few years, I've received all the standard right-wing chain letter (lies), you know the kind that say "if you believe what we believe, send this to a friend".
Anyway, he emailed me this link to an American hero. Sounded good and you should check out the link. But check out my response after the flip.
