Good bye, dailykosobama

Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 10:17:22 AM PDT

Dailykos was hailed as a terrific site for democrats once.  I remember kos' comments on saying just that--this is a proud site for democrats to elect democrats.  Anyone who was not for democrats was basically not welcome on the site.

Through 2004, 2005, 2006, and most of 2007, this was true.  Kos made headlines, published books, went on talk shows, and generally inspired many with this site.

Kosovo Independence: The Trojan Horse

Mon Feb 18, 2008 at 06:54:37 PM PDT

As many of you know Kosovo declared independence from Serbia yesterday, and today the U.S., Britain, and France became the first countries to recognize Kosovo.  The speed with which the chimp endorsed this independence made me suspicious, as he never does anything without an ulterior motive.

My usual search terms when intrigued--haliburton, cheney, brown and root, natural resources--yielded of course the reason the commander guy recognized Kosovo:

Its about the oil, coal, and corporate profits.

And war.  China and Russia have opposed this recognition. The resources are going either east or west, and the Trojan Horse just might be Kosovo independence.

Clinton will repeal "don't ask, don't tell", a report on the town hall

Mon Feb 04, 2008 at 07:58:38 PM PDT

I watched the Clinton town hall, listening to some excellent and detailed questions from around the country. I was looking for some independence in her on this issue.

She specifically started with the repealing of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, one that she stated has failed.  She had many other specific points of interest.

A Question of Ethics in Blogging

Tue Dec 25, 2007 at 10:53:47 AM PDT

I recently engaged in a not-so-wonderful "dialogue" with a person on this site, who after insulting other bloggers because they weren't for his candidate, said that "my opinions are backed up by this site's legal counsel".

The question I have is: should a lawyer who is the "legal counsel" to dKos be able to post his "opinions" without disclosing his relationship with the site?

At the request of big pharmacuetical companies, the FDA is about to officially ban alternative medicine, herbal therapies, and alternative treatment modalities.  If FDA succeeds, you will need a prescription for vitamins, and your doctor could be arrested for not being a medical doctor, even though he or she is credible alternative medicine practitioner.

House Dem Leadership: Can you help Wyoming turn blue?

Wed Nov 01, 2006 at 07:33:44 AM PDT

I've been posting on a race very important to my state--that is Trauner vs incumbent Barbara Cubin.  As I reported yesterday, the NRCC just dumped money into Wyoming to help save her.  Also, Cheney is coming to Wyoming again, no doubt with his threats to people in Wyoming.

I am asking for help for Mr. Trauner to blunt one of the most potent arguments that Cubin and Cheney have settled on: committee seniority.

Money Dump into Wyoming--A Report

Tue Oct 31, 2006 at 09:00:37 AM PDT

Facing the prospect of losing a congressional seat in Wyoming, the NRCC dumped $250,000 into Barbara Cubin's campaign over the weekend.   The money will be used for adds against Gary Trauner, already very negative. In addition, Cheney will once again visit Wyoming on her behalf, this coming saturday, at a high school in Laramie.

This is a report on this development, and includes some excerpts showing the "mood" of WY voters, largely Republican.  See the Casper Star Tribune at http://www.casperstartribune.net for more coverage.

Trauner is now statistically tied with Cubin.  Is it too late for Babs?  Join me below the fold, and take the poll

Earthquakes and U.S. Politics

Sun Oct 22, 2006 at 12:04:01 PM PDT

I don't suppose it would surprise anyone that earthquakes are going on with regard to the upset of Republican control and repudiation of Bushco in the 2006 elections. But would it surprise you that there are real earthquakes exactly in the same places where upsets are likely?

I Saw Gary Trauner Tonight--Can Wyoming do it?

Thu Oct 12, 2006 at 11:37:46 PM PDT

In a small town in Wyoming, Gary Trauner (D), candidate for the lone U.S. House seat spoke to a capacity crowd. This man has a lot of energy, enthusiasm, ideas for America..the guy is smart and business saavvy...

Just to make sure we were aware how much power Cubin (Cheney) has, a huge military helicopter hovered overhead.

Minimizing the Impact of "Leaks"?

Mon Nov 07, 2005 at 11:22:35 PM PDT

A very recent article by Scott Shane in the Washington Post divulges the following:

WASHINGTON, Nov. 7 - In an apparent slip, a top American intelligence official has revealed at a public conference what has long been secret: the amount of money the United States spends on its spy agencies.

At an intelligence conference in San Antonio last week, Mary Margaret Graham, a 27-year veteran of the Central Intelligence Agency and now the deputy director of national intelligence for collection, said the annual intelligence budget was $44 billion.  This seems suspicious to me.

A 12-Step Program for American Recovery©

Sun Sep 11, 2005 at 09:01:15 AM PDT

I was inspired by this diary, http://www.dailykos.com/story/2005/9/10/191248/433, and the ensuing comments, which described Bush as a non-recovered alcoholic who will continue to inflict his behavior on America.  And comments therein describing republicans and the media as enablers, a classic term in this literature on alcoholics. While there were many comments in that diary expressing concern with psychoanalyzing the President ( "Bush on the Couch" by  Justin Frank), there were those comments like Roger M that both described the use of such analysis on historical political figures:

Is a well established device in history and political science. I remember once reading a similar psychoanalysis of Ataturk that was very similar. The difference was that Ataturk was a real war hero, very intelligent and very skilled.

...and those comments like nape's that thanked the author from a different place:

'Rising Tide' Deja Vu: 1927 & 2005

Thu Sep 01, 2005 at 07:47:42 PM PDT

I am adding my voice to this huge disaster as after I have given what I can financially, made comments, called the White House and screamed for air drops of food and water; and called all of my congressional delegation to scream about the US not accepting foreign aid for New Orleans (oh, I forgot that Condi was shopping for shoes in NY today)...I am still angry, bereaved, and getting prepared for what is sure to be a rocky next few months.  We must speak out.

But we also have to understand this natural disaster--and yes lay blame right now where it belongs--with Bush, Congress, and Homeland Security which has crippled FEMA.  And we also have to be educated as to the background of "messing with water" so as to help us criticize and hold accountable those who have ruined New Orleans now, and to propose reasonable solutions that cannot be called "liberal, antiwar" solutions.  We need to go for the throat here.

Red State Forums on Iraq--An Idea

Sat Aug 27, 2005 at 08:21:06 PM PDT

Recently our small red-state group wrote a LTE which called our congressional delegation out on their silence regarding Iraq, no WMD, torture, and traitorgate, or as Kennedy put it, "Bush's Vietnam".

The LTE unleashed a very interesting slew of LTE's from all over the state more or less on the same theme, and a lot point to our delegation's silence, the lack of accountability, the degrading of our military.  Then of course, we got the crazies, the fringe-type letters, one of which we shut down pretty quickly by pointing out the strategy that people (republicans)use to avoid discussing the issue--inflame hate or raise a number of stupid, unassociated issues.

It occurs to us that even one courageous letter can help unleash the concern that you know is out there.  It got our small group to thinking...

If Rove is laughing, what are we missing?

Fri Jul 15, 2005 at 07:41:40 AM PDT

As reported two days ago in salon.com magazine, Rove laughed when asked by reporters if he was going to quit his job.  Why is he laughing?

With Bushco, I've learned that nothing is as it is portrayed on the surface.  And I believe Rove is laughing as he lies---he's sucessfully diverted attention away from the President and VP--the more dangerous one IMHO.

Do I wish Rove was too clever for his own britches?  Yes.  But maybe not yet.  More below the fold.

Coating Democracy in Oil

Sat May 07, 2005 at 09:28:40 AM PDT

Recent diaries have discussed the real reason for Bush's trip the the Balkans.
Bush's recent comments congratulating the Balkans for overthrowing communism (read: Russia/Soviet Union), instead of the more recent ugly ethnic cleansing, particularly got me thinking, what really is going on?

So I start from the usual place:  oil (duh).  It looks like there are significant reserves and key pipelines whose oil can either flow west or can be used to meet the more local demands, including Russia and perhaps China.  It looks like Bush is using "democracy" to align these countries (and their oil exports) with the US...

Mensa Invitational: Words we can use!

Thu Apr 14, 2005 at 10:17:23 AM PDT

The Washington Post's Mensa Invitational once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.

Here are this year's winners:

  1. Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

  2. Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.

Abuse of Presidential Power--Executive Orders

Thu Mar 31, 2005 at 05:06:17 PM PDT

Quietly, behind the scenes, the mechanisms have been put in place for the President to take over the country through Executive Order pursuant to a declaration of a national emergency.  This is frightening in itself, especially under Buscho which plays fast and loose with the term "emergency" and "war" and "crisis".

A Presidential Executive Order, whether constitutional or not, becomes law simply by its publication in the Federal Register. The following Executive Orders, now recorded in the Federal Register, can be put into effect at any time an emergency is declared:

DeLay Lobbyists Fleece Tribes of $66m

Sat Nov 20, 2004 at 09:06:12 PM PDT

Another thread of information to wrap DeLay....I know this has been diaried here before a while ago....but since we've been talking about strategies to deal with the change of rules in the House regarding DeLay, I thought this might have additional juicy relevance.

The "DeLay Amendment" here is to shield him and his lobbyists from immoral behavior toward and stealing from Native Americans.  Notice the emphasis on manipulating elections.  Wonder what else his boys have been up to?
