Montana superdelegate backs Obama, says Hillary 'can't unite us'
Thu May 08, 2008 at 10:46:30 AM PDT
Update III: Commenters have noted that Dahlman was counted previously as having endorsed Obama. She told us today she had not formally endorsed, and the list we checked and we did not see her on the list at Politico earlier today. Sorry for the confusion. She declared her support for Obama in the Great Falls Tribune Apr. 13. Sorry for the confusion. We've been calling people listed as uncommitted, but not all lists have caught up with everyone. I think the interview is still articulate, informative and reflective of states to come, but don't mean to overshadow any other news, so obviously recommend/unrecommend at your discretion.
We just spoke with Jean Lemire Dahlman, a Montana super. None of Montanas supers have backed Hillary. She explained her reasoning primarily in the context of Hillary failing to be able to "unite" the party. Congrats goes to Bev Davis, our new political reporter who joined us from Huffpo's Off the Bus.
Declassified DoD report sees problem resolved, makes no recommendations
Fri Feb 09, 2007 at 08:14:45 AM PDT
The following is the declassified two page summary of the Office of Special Plans report, as acquired Friday morning by RAW STORY.
The Pentagon's Inspector General said he found it unnecessary to make any recommendations, saying changed relationships between the Defense Department and the Intelligence Community "significantly reduce the opportunity for the inappropriate conduct of intelligence activities outside of intelligence channels" in the future.

Not yet up on the NYT site -- we got a leaked copy of the story -- read more excerpts here on Raw Story.
President George W. Bush has given his administration a boost in how the government regulates key issues such as civil rights and the environment, The New York Times will report on its Tuesday front page, RAW STORY has learned. The story has not yet moved on the front page of the site.
The President "signed a directive that gives the White House much greater control over the rules that the federal government develops to regulate public health, safety," privacy and other issues, writes Robert Pear for the Times.
More here. Will post full NYT link when it moves.
Full story just moved at Times, here.
Raw editor clarifies Iran: Concern, not imminent strike
Sat May 13, 2006 at 09:16:05 AM PDT
In a very
thoughtful diary discussing my article regarding concerns over a possible Iran conflict, the diarist - with respect - misinterpreted the facts of my article. I would like to clarify the points of the article. According to the diarist:
"Rawstory has reported that two US aircraft carriers are steaming toward the Persian Gulf to join the one already there. Unspecified military scuttlebutt, says the site, tells of a coming attack on Iran, as early as June of this year. Within seven weeks from today."
We did not report that an attack was coming or that it would occur in June. What we reported is as follows:
Bush photographed with Marianas gov, Abramoff client
Mon Jan 23, 2006 at 11:11:35 AM PDT
This may actually be my first diary -- and I wanted to reach out to Kossacks on this one because Kos diarists have done such an excellent job connecting the dots on Abramoff's work with the Northern Marianas Islands. It's a complex story that I think has been tough for the MSM to get their hands around but I think this lays it out pretty cleanly:

President Bush, and now-Marianas Governor Beningo Repeki Fitial. Fitial was elected speaker of the Marianas House after a push by former DeLay aides and directed millions to Abramoff to keep U.S. minimum wage laws from being applied to the islands. How does Bush fit in? He appointed one of Abramoff's chief lieutenants, Patrick Pizzella, an Undersecretary of Labor in April 2001 -- just a month before Bush met Fitial. You can read more about Pizzella, Bush, and Abramoff's contacts with the Bush Administration here.
