Breaking - First Alaska numbers

Over 1,000 people braved temperatures dropping below -30 degrees in Fairbanks, Alaska tonight in the Democratic precinct caucuses. That's nearly 10 times the number who caucused in 2004.
With all of the Fairbanks districts reporting, and representing about 16 percent of the Alaska population, the totals are:
71 % Obama
26 % Clinton
2 % Uncommitted
The Anchorage Daily News online reports that "Voters Swarm Precinct Caucus" - we've had one report that over 4,000 people caucused in Anchorage, setting new records there.

Alaska universities offer Katrina-affected students resident tuition

The Fairbanks and Anchorage campuses of the University of Alaska announced Friday that they would accept late applications from students affected by Hurricane Katrina.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner story says that even though Alaska is far from the disaster, the state university is willing to help.
Both campuses are waiving late registration and application fees for refugees from Hurricane Katrina, which ripped through the Gulf Coast on Monday, likely killing thousands of people and leaving tens of thousands more without shelter, food or money.
Lori Keim, spokeswoman for the University of Alaska Anchorage, said transferring students would be eligible for resident tuition.

Turner Compares Fox's Popularity to Hitler

Broadcasting & Cable reports on a speech by Ted Turner, calling Fox Network "a propaganda tool of the Bush administration" at the National Association for Television Programming Executives on Tuesday night.
The article indicates he "indirectly compared Fox News Channel's popularity to Adolf Hitler's popular election to run Germany before World War II."
